Covid era: Zoom acquires Keybase

In April 2020 (covid era!), Zoom acquired Keybase. I hopped on the train and joined Zoom’s design efforts at the craziest time – when around 1B humans were using Zoom. The design team was about 24 designers when I joined, and we grew to about 100 in 18 months. Over my 4 years in the company, I worked on Zoom Team Chat, Zoom Meetings, Zoom Whiteboard, Zoom Mail, and I designed and launched Zoom Calendar and Zoom Scheduler. It doesn’t look like it but today, Zoom is made of around 15 products.
Matt Johnston, Head of Design, Zoom
“I had the pleasure of working with Cecile while leading the design team at Zoom, and she was one of the most self-sufficient and confident designers on the team. I put her on multiple high-impact projects, including shipping zero-to-one products, because I knew she could jump into any new challenge and deliver strong results. What sets Cecile apart is her ability to operate at multiple levels — she can think through big product decisions with her PMs while also obsessing over the fine details of interaction and visual design. She’s equally skilled at driving alignment at a design system level, ensuring consistency across the product. Beyond her craft, Cecile builds strong partnerships with PMs and cross-functional teams, contributing not just as a designer but as a strategic voice in shaping products. Any team would be lucky to have her.”
Mark Nemeth, Design Leadership, Zoom Productivity Apps
“I had the pleasure of managing Cecile as a designer and am happy to enthusiastically recommend her for any product or experience design role. During her four years at Zoom, she was instrumental in shaping multiple products, including Calendar, Chat, Whiteboard, and Meetings. She is one of those rare designers who can take an idea from a napkin sketch or quick conversation and turn it into a fully realized product. Her ability to build from zero to one is truly exceptional. Her skills span the full spectrum of product and UX design, but her visual design stands out above all. The skeuomorphic icons she created for our Whiteboard product, for example, were so thoughtfully crafted and striking that they practically invited interaction. She also played a pivotal role in designing and launching our Calendar product from the ground up. Beyond her talent, Cecile is a fantastic team player. She navigates difficult situations with grace and earns the respect and appreciation of her colleagues. I strongly recommend Cecile for any role. She would be a tremendous asset to any team.”
